Sopel Traded to the Islanders
Aside from re-signing Markus Naslund, Nonis also traded Brent "only Mike Ricci has worse hair" Sopel to the Islanders for a conditional draft pick. Along with Malik's signing with the Rangers, the Canucks have cleared approximately $3 million in cap space. It also leaves them with only four NHL-caliber defensemen (Ohlund, Jovanovksi, Allen and Salo).
