Canucks 3 Oilers 5

The Vancouver Canucks lost their third straight road game, falling to the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 5-3. The Canucks actually scored first (finally) - Josh Green scored just 18 seconds into the game - but they couldn't build on the early lead. Edmonton scored the next three goals and the Canucks were never able to claw their way back.

My notes from the game:
  • The Canucks had a promising start to the game. They followed Josh Green's goal with a few strong shifts and kept the Oilers in their own zone. Then it seemed like all of a sudden, the Oilers found their legs and took over the rest of the game.
  • Maybe the Canucks were tired from playing the night before but the Oilers were a lot quicker and often beat the Canucks to the puck.
  • Alex Auld had rebound control problems most of the night. A couple of the Oilers goals were a direct result of some bad rebounds.
  • Rob McVicar replaced Auld after the fifth Oilers goal and finally got his first taste of NHL action. He still has to face his first NHL shot.
  • I thought that of the role players, Josh Green and Nolan Baumgartner played effective games. Really couldn't ask any more from the 13th forward and 6th defenseman. Especially at the league minimum.
  • I also thought Naslund played a very good game on both ends of the ice. He was often dangerous when he had the puck; defensively, I was impressed with how much he was hustling out there.
  • Did anyone else notice that Brendan Morrison wasn't on the ice in the last few minutes of the game?
Next up: Boston on Sunday.
