Toronto Sports Network Power Rankings

TSN released their most recent NHL power rankings. Ottawa is no. 1 and - hold for this - Toronto is no. 2. If you're trying to look for the Canucks, you have to scroll to the bottom of the page... then click on the link to go to teams 16-30 - the Canucks are no. 17.

The Leafs are no. 2 why? Because they're one game over .500? Or because they scored 9 goals against the last-place Thrashers - 7 of them on the powerplay when the game was out of hand?

The no. 17 Canucks, on the other hand, have won 6 out of their 8 games, including their last 4 in a row. They are also 1st place in the Western Conference and are leading the entire NHL in points. (Okay, in fairness to TSN, I believe they were only in 1st place in their division and 2nd place in the Western Conference when the rankings were done.)

I now also understand TSN is callling Toronto the land of sunshine, rainbows and lollipops.

Looks like the author realized that he'd have to defend himself on that one:

Chalk it up to the Leafs taking the juggernaut of Ottawa to 2 shoot-outs to start the season.

The Canucks haven't been as impressive right out of the gate.

Detroit isn't a bad team either, and the 'Nucks had an impressive WIN over them. In Detroit. They also had impressive wins over no. 6 Minnesota (granted they lost the first of the two games against the Wild) and no. 14 Dallas.

And did no. 3 Carolina perform that much better than the 'Nucks? 2 out of their 3 wins were against the Capitals and the winless Penguins.
