A Cookie Coincidence
After another listless effort, this time against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, there is a lot of talk again in Canuckland about "what is wrong" with the team. A lot of fans mention the lack of urgency or the inconsistent effort, but in a salary cap world, what can the Canucks do? Do they pull a "Joe Thornton-like" trade? Do they fire the coach? Do they do both or do neither?
I offer a much simpler solution - wait for Matt Cooke - and the energy he brings to the team - to come back.
In the twelve games they played before Cooke fractured his jaw, the Canucks were six games over .500 with an 8-2-2 record. In the 15 games since then, they have been a very average 8-7.
Hang in there, 'Nucks fans. Cooke has already started practicing with the team and is expected back in a couple of weeks.
