Oilers 4 Canucks 0
On a night when a win would have given them the division lead, the Vancouver Canucks lost 4-0 to the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers were ripe for the picking - they had lost their last three games, including a 4-0 home loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, and were missing two of their leading scorers, Ryan Smyth and Ales Hemsky, to injury - yet they somehow managed to put four goals past Roberto Luongo, who had only let in three goals in the past three games.
On the other hand, the Canucks couldn't put any of their 36 shots past Dwayne Roloson. Well, they did but the boys from Toronto decided they didn't really and called it off. And the one puck they put in the net, they - okay, Kevin Bieksa - put past Roberto Luongo. Call it puck luck or lack of.
It's getting ridiculous, really. Over the last 16 games, the Canucks have scored more than two goals only twice. In the last six games, they've scored a grand total of five goals and were shut out twice - that's 0.83 goals per game for anyone who's interested. I think it goes without saying that they won't win many games while scoring at that clip.
From the Mainstream
Next Game
Friday night against the Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes.

From the Mainstream
- As if things weren't bad enough, the Canucks also lost Taylor Pyatt, Sami Salo and Rick Rypien to injuries.
- Four local writers mentioned puck luck: Kuzma, Ziemer, Macintyre and Pap.
- If anything, the Canucks' story has at least been consistent all season. So consistent in fact that Ed Willes is proposing a do-it-yourself Canucks story.
About the game around the blogosphere
- Waiting For Stanley recaps the game. Crap is right.
- Loxy, an Edmonton fan in Vancouver, attended the game and has some interesting observations of Canucks fans. Ouch.
