Oilers 2 Canucks 1

Consider this an open post.

If you're a Canucks fan, feel free to rant. If you're a fan of another team, feel free to gloat.

I'm still going to the game on Saturday which, in all likelihood, is Trevor Linden's final game. I'll be back with a post-mortem on this team shortly after that.

I just don't know what to say JJ. I was at work here in Sydney, Australia and was clicking on the game blog to see what the score was. I just can't believe we lost -it was a play off position on the line here. I can't understand where the team who won 6-2 last week went to, but then I suppose the team we got tonight/today is the team we've had most of the season.

As everyone is saying, we need a major shake up in the off season which we will get with free agency, but I'm not sure it's enough.

Ya don't give me this 6-2 win crap over Calgary --played the nite before---totally tired, injured etc. etc. a complete no show by Calgary...tonite you got the true Canucks...no talent...American hockey league team with no name players other than luango who's world class..and don't talk about injuries...like who's injured for them? steve Yzerman or Joe sakic?..those 2 faggott sisters are shit...and you'll never win anything with those 2 faggots..nothing ever...can't they figure it out? and that defence stinks..sorry but I don't see any Neidermeyers, Blakes, Zubovs or Prongers back there..just a bunch of meatheads that block shots...I'm so happy that these pieces of shit didn't make the playoffs just to spite these ass hole fans that are such idiots that they think this garbage team is some kinda detroit...ya look at the names yoiu idiots..Burrows Superstar...that's all u got..hahahahahaha! and then there's Isbister, cowan, 40 yr old piece of shit linden, etc etc..ya go ahead tell me I'm wrong...guess what u ain't goin anywhere with that American HL lineup baby and also, go ahead I'm a bad guy..defend 'em...guess what? they didn't make the playoffs baby...ya LA's the shits eh? give em Luango and gues whaT? they're in the playoffs and these pieces o' shit are the total worse team in hockey ...no question...

I'm there with ocenbrez, I got the day off work today because of 'tombsweeping day'. Yes...that's right...and it was so appropriate, don't you think?

Spent the day getting a haircut and having lunch, whilst refreshing the scoreboard over and over again on my mobile phone.

The Canucks will make some changes with the expired contracts coming up...but I really think the problem is Viggy. There were numerous signs all season that the players weren't getting on with him. From Naslund's early season rant about playing more freely, to Willie Mitchell's disgust at being called out in the press, to Matt Cooke's relief to be traded away from a system that strangles the players...I think there is something a bit deeper going on.

Yeah, they play better defense than during the Crawford era...but they are boring to watch. Throw some people in front of the net and watch it bounce off ankles and hope it goes into the net is not hockey in my book.

JJ ...hear the standing ovation those empty, but sold, seats round you will give Trevor Linden and not give Markus Naslund – both of which will play their last game as a Canuck. Well clarify that Trevor will always be a Canuck. Naslund stopped being one long ago.

i went to the bar last night to watch the ppv...it was surprising how many people weren't surprised by what happened. it's become so common for this team to choke down the stretch, especially the years that naslund has been captain, that's it's practically accepted at this point. look to the year they lost the division to colorado, or the playoff choke to minnesota, or the horrid final stretch of the season in 05, or this year. its become more common that not that this team's core players will not only lose but lose without any sense of desperation or urgency. they can say they worked hard, but this pattern of choking is alarming beyond belief.

my belief is that luongo is this franchise's best chance to win a stanley cup in its history. and it is clear that the sedins, who have been part of all the above disasters, can't lead a team to the stanley cup as first line players. therefore, it is nonis' duty to trade them this off-season. they need a core of players that will play with urgency and heart.

and i completely disagree that this is all av's fault. look at their roster of forwards. what's he supposed to do? he has no other choice but to play boring, defensive hockey. nonis has done absolutely nothing to improve the forward core, despite knowing a problem has existed for years. his doing nothing at the trade deadline this year was one of the main reasons they've crashed so hard. this year's problems are all on nonis...the repeated choking problems are all on the core of players led by naslund and the sedins.

God Damn am I behind.... forgive a hockey fan from Chicago but...why are Linden and Naslund perceived gone?

Free agency?
Retirement?
Both?
Neither?

"Naslund stopped being one long ago."

Ooo! Couldn't have said it better myself!

A shitty loss and a half-hearted effort. Where was the desperation?
The team doesn't need a major shakeup though. It needs to be healthy and have a few free agents added to it after Naslund goes bye-bye. Someone needs to take the pressure off the Sedins, because obviously they can't handle it.

I don't have any gloating for you. It was the same for us Avs fans last season, and it sucked.

Tapeleg, with all due respect, it's not the same as the Avs last year. Unless I misremember 06-07, the Avs made a bold late season push that fell just a point or two short. This year, the Canucks suffered from a catastrophic case of "fall apart" (as Homer Simpson would say). Two teams movig in different directions: you guys went up, and fell just short, while we cratered.

To be honest, I think we're fooling ourselves if we think we can turn it around next year. I have a terrible feeling that the Nucks are in for a couple years of futility. We are all Canucks? Ha. We are all turning into Leafs.

Typical hate from some inbred fool who knows nothing of hockey.
Anyways, this season was a disaster, and it WILL be the last with Naslund leading the way. Nazzy had jump over the last few weeks, but it was to little, to late.
Looking at the positives, we have the best goalie in the league. A deep, deep, deep backend which is amongst the best in the league. And we have Kesler, Burrows, Shannon, Raymond as young guns and the Sedins, who still will finish in the top 30 in scoring while still maintaining great defensive numbers. We need 2 top 6 forwards, and we are back on top.
This year was snake-bitten from the start, and while injuries are a part of the game, forming an identity while some of the core is in and out is impossible. If we had stayed healty, the DIV title would have been ours about 3 weeks ago.
Anyways, I dont see a whole lot wrong, giving AV another chance is vital, and next year rests on Nonis and what he can do in the summer.
Unfortanetely, Bieksa or Edler is also playin his last game tonight, as they are 2 valuable, and are needed to entice for good players in return...

It was hard to watch that loss and I'm not a Canucks fan. Hopefully Nonis - or someone who replaces him - will make the moves you guys need in the offseason.

Nonis and Luongo must go. Naslund and the Sedin sisters must be paid 1/2 what they are getting, or be sent back to Sweden. The Canucks need a strong 1st line. The Canucks need to pull the pin on Willie Mitchell, utterly overrated by any standard.

The whole organization is steeped in hopelessness. If I owned this team, I would KO Nonis like RIGHT NOW!
