Bettman and the Unbalanced Schedule
Is Gary Bettman actually listening to the masses? A few weeks ago, I harped on the NHL's realigned schedule that doesn't send Sid the Kid and the Pittsburgh Penguins - and most Eastern Conference teams - to the West Coast this season. On a trip to Edmonton this past weekend, Bettman addressed this issue:

"It's a balancing act and we went in a direction to try to foster rivalries like the Battle of Alberta," Bettman said. "On the one hand, you don't get to see Montreal as much or Crosby, but Calgary plays Edmonton eight times. Is he softening his stance? I hope so.
"The Eastern teams are loving it and some of the Western teams -- not all -- are questioning it. That's something we're going to have to look at when the season's over and we look at the attendance figures and we look at the numbers."
