Canada vs. USA (World Junior Hockey Edition)
Tracy and I took in the Canada/USA World Junior Hockey game last night at the Pacific Coliseum. It was our first, live international hockey game, though it was tempting to forego it for the nice sum of $175 per ticket that scalpers were offering. Insane.
Anyway, as could be expected, the atmosphere was boisterous among the 16,083 mostly pro-Canada, Maple Leaf jersey-wearing and flag-waving crowd. Team Canada rewarded the faithful with some good physical play and an early 2-0 lead before winning the game 3-2, thanks in part to the Americans pulliing their goalie with a minute to play.
As usual, Jes GÅ‘lbez, who is covering the tournament from the comfy confines of the PC press box, has the game recap and some liveblogging musings on the game.
Some of my own quick notes from the game:
On a side note, I have two tickets to the relegation game tomorrow between Slovakia and Norway in section U, row 12 (that's 12 rows from the ice). I can't go, but if anyone is keen enough, email me at gocanucksgo10 (at) hotmail (dot) com or on the comments section of this post and leave me your thought(s) on last night's game.
I'll randomly draw someone's name at 9 pm tonight. Unless you're cute and blond, in which case it may not be so random.

Thanks to Eryka for sending this picture of Mac, a draft-eligible Canuck in 2020.

Some of my own quick notes from the game:
- The Canucks have drafted a very good goalie in Cory Schneider. He made some tremendous saves and kept the Americans in the game. I thought he easily could have been Team USA's player of the game.
- Other Canucks draft pick, Luc Bourdon, didn't look out of place playing alongside the best junior players in the world. Luuuuuuc is positionally-sound and a smooth skater. As a Canucks fan, I hope the extra year in junior does for him what it did for Dion Phaneuf.
- Phil Kessel is the real deal. Between him and Canadian Jonathan Toews, I thought Kessel was more visible and more active last night. He was all over the ice and created a few chances for the Americans.
- Justin Pogge was well-deserving of Team Canada's player of the game. You can sure tell that he is a Team Canada fan favorite among Vancouverites.
- What was Jack Johnson thinking and why isn't he being suspended?
