Canucks 6 Habs 2

"Is it a full moon?" Jim Hughson commented after Trevor Linden scored at 13:47 of the first period to make it 6-0. The Vancouver Canucks went on to win 6-2 against the Montreal Canadiens and extend their win streak to four games. The Canucks are now 18-3-3 at GM Place and finished the Eastern Conference portion of their schedule with a 9-1 record.
Game Recaps: canucks.com . ESPN
Statistics: Score Sheet . Stat Sheet
My notes from the game:
  • The Canucks tied a team record by scoring six goals in one period (set against Calgary in January 16, 1987). The six goals were scored in a span of 12:50, third fastest in team history. If I'm not mistaken, it is also the fastest six goals in team history from the start of the game.
  • Can't blame Alex Auld for being a bit shaky at parts of the game. The Canucks were already up 6-0 by the time the Habs got their second shot on goal. Auld ended up with 24 saves on 26 shots. After ten consecutive starts, I'm sure he'll get a breather during one of the back-to-back games against Chicago or St. Louis.
  • One thing that has been more noticeable over the past few games is the increased intensity from the 'Nucks. Even with a big lead, the team continued to play hard and block shots. They officially recorded 18 blocked shots for the night.
  • I'm sure this is just coincidence, but the Canucks are 7-3 in the ten games that Alex Burrows has played in. He has five points (3G-2A) and a +7 rating in those games.
  • The Sedin line recorded 1 goal and 5 assists tonight. Over the last ten games, they've combined for 30 points (8G-22A). The Westcoast Express has 23 points (11G-12A) over the same span.
  • Because the game was decided early, Marc Crawford was able to roll his lines and give the bottom half of the lineup some extra ice-time. Only Wade Brookbank (9:10) saw less than ten minutes of ice-time.
  • Is there any reason the team can't wear those retro jerseys more often?
Next up: St. Louis on Monday.

Jeez Louise, after this shellacking the Habs must be glad they won't be back in Vancouver for three years.

Thanks, schedule makers!

I guess Bob Gainey is joining Bobby Clarke in staying with the unbalanced schedule, eh?

Hey JJ you’re at the games. I noticed the last two Saturdays Mark Donnelly has let the fans sing the middle section of O’Canada. Hasn’t this been a tradition reserved for playoff games? What the consensus for the fan in the seats? The ‘nucks won both times so why complain. Is there are reason Donnelly’s started the playoffs early this year?

Some trends I notice. The Triplets continue to out play the West Coast Express. Something is up with Naslund. His groin is still bad or something. The twins were the first two stars. Scott Oak interviewed them after the game. In my humble opinion, as much as I’d hate to admit it, Burke was right. Did you pick up on the insights and articulate interaction of the two? Especially Henrik who seems to have grown tremendous presence since the last season played. Anyone know does Neil McRae still call them ‘the sisters?’ If he does he hasn’t watched a Canuck’s game in 2006.

Truth be told, I wasn't at GM Place on Saturday night, but my fiance and one of her girlfriends were. :)

I noticed early in the season that Donnelly started letting the fans sing the middle part of the anthem. You're right in that it used to be just a playoff tradition but he's obviously started early this season.

I'm gonna have to rack my brain on this one. There's a chance that except maybe when he sings the anthem with his daughter, he's involved the fans during the all-Canadian match-ups.

The Sedins have definitely grown leaps and bounds from when they were drafted in 1999. Not just their game, but also the way they conduct themselves in front of the media. They're definitely more comfortable in front of a mic now. Mind you, it helps that most reporters no longer ask them why they suck.

Don't know about Neil McRae. I haven't heard him on the 8:15 slot recently. (Though admittedly, I don't listen in everyday.)
