Canucks 2 Wild 5

I haven't been disheartened many times this season but tonight I am.

After the Canucks built a 2-0 first period lead on Ryan Kesler's first goal of the season and Jan Bulis' third, everything seemed to be going the Canucks' way. Or so we thought.

Tood White "scored" a Joel Otto-like goal with 14 seconds left in the first period. (Apparently, the guys in Toronto can see better than the referee on the ice.)

Brian Rolston then scored on a questionable penalty shot attempt.

Then Sami Salo left the game with a pulled groin. (The SNP guys said it was a lower body injury.)

The Canucks tried to make a game of it in the third period but were stoned cold by the Wild's back-up goaltender.

Oh, and the Wild scored three more goals.

Ugh.

My 3 Stars of the Game

  1. Brian Rolston (MIN): Rolston ranks up there with Milan Hejduk as a Canuck-killer. He played 22:25 minutes tonight, had five shots on goal and scored on a penalty shot.
  2. Niklas Backstrom (MIN): Frustrated the Canucks over and over and over again, especially in the third period. Stopped all 19 shots he faced.
  3. Taylor Pyatt (VAN): Big forward was a handful tonight. Four shots on goal and plenty of great chances in front of the net.
Fun With Numbers

The Canucks' next game is Saturday night against the Colorado Avalanche in Colorado.

We have to mix up our PP a little, some shifts just pound shots endlessly and go for rebounds, other shifts, do the fancy pass/slap pass thing to Pyatt.

Every team is playing us for that pass and we're only just starting to shoot some. Our PP should be better, we're given so many opportunities!!!!

arggghhh...

Oh... and dump Rory please... time to give someone else a try!

Agreed, myles -- the power play looked inept, and Fitzgerald was awful again tonight...blatant giveaways, and then he's so slow he can't make up for them. I couldn't believe he was out there on the power play at all.
