Game Day: Canucks at Flames

A commenter on my previous post said, "Whatever they ate on Christmas, I hope they stocked up on it for New Year's as well..."

I ditto those sentiments.

The Canucks are playing their best hockey of the season right now. Three consecutive wins against Northwest Division rivals say so. I hope, tonight, they make it four when they play the Calgary Flames.

"It's kind of fun to play Calgary," Roberto Luongo, who out-duelled Miikka Kiprusoff 6-5 in their last meeting six days ago, said after the Canucks practiced on New Year's Day. "Obviously we're fighting for first place and it's kind of like a Stanley Cup final game. They're intense games and they're fun to play."
It's not likely the Canucks will put six pucks past Mikka Kiprusoff again - well, we can always hope - but any scoring will obviously help. The Sedins have been hot (16 points in four games); so are Trevor Linden, Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund.

Vancouver Canuck captain Markus Naslund hasn't scored a goal in 14 games. Taylor Pyatt has been blanked in eight. Alex Burrows -- poor Alex -- is still looking for his first of the season.

But defencemen Mattias Ohlund and Kevin Bieksa are hotter than a night with a bleached blond heiress in Paris.

Ohlund has collected five points in his last two games, including a pair of goals in Saturday's 6-2 Vancouver trouncing of the Edmonton Oilers. Bieksa, his partner on the power play, has five points in his last four games and 10 in 10.
Again, whatever they ate on Christmas, I hope there's plenty left.
