Carter Worth The Cash

Anson Carter made TSN's list of best free agent signees this season:
5. Anson Carter, LW, Vancouver - Well on his way to full-fledged journeyman status, Carter signed a one-year deal with the Canucks last summer after managing only 28 points in 77 games with the Rangers, Capitals and Kings in 2003-2004. Installed on a line with the Sedin twins in Vancouver, though, the 31 year-old Carter has been re-born and his 22 goals ranks second on the team. Head coach Marc Crawford broke it down in the Vancouver Sun: "Anson is a great finisher. He has great hands and is very good at finding the open spot and those guys are very adept at getting the puck to people in the open spot. Having a guy who can finish is so important. He complements them really well, too. His personality is very outgoing, he's an upbeat guy and they feed off of that."
2005-2006 Salary: $1,000,000
With 21 games left in the regular season, Carter is only six goals short of his career-high of 28. He's also already matched his career-high of six game-winning goals. And while he's not shooting the puck as much as he has in previous seasons - he only has 102 shots through 60 games (1.7 shots per game), though he did have a whopping six shots on goal tonight - he is converting on 21.6% of them.

Crawford's assessment is bang-on; and Carter has certainly provided good bang for the buck.

The rest of TSN's list is here.
