Turn Out The Red Light
Not that there's ever a good time for a team's top-three defensemen to be out of the lineup, but for this week and next anyway, Mattias Ohlund, Ed Jovanovski and Sami Salo at least missed games or will be missing games against the NHL's lowest scoring teams.
On Tuesday, they faced a Calgary Flames team that ranks 28th in average goals scored per game (2.62). Last night, they faced the Nashville Predators, who, while in fourth place in the Western Conference standings, ranks only 16th in average goals scored (3.03); they play Nashville again next week.
Tonight's opponent are the Chicago Blackhawks, who rank 29th (2.52). On Sunday, they play the St. Louis Blues, who rank 27th (2.68).
The last time Vancouver played the Blackhawks, the Canucks won 3-2 to break their one win in nine games slump. Maybe tonight, they can break a one loss slump.
