Mason Makes All-Rookie Team

Some good news from the prospects front, courtesy of the Cochrane Times:
Cochrane product Mason Raymond has made the transition to NCAA college hockey with the University of Minnesota Duluth look relatively easy, being named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) 2005-2006 All-Rookie Team March 16.

In 40 games this season the 20-year-old scored 11 goals and added 17 assists for 28 points, finishing second in team scoring.

And Raymond found himself in good company on the All-Rookie squad with T.J. Oshie, the St. Louis Blues’ 2005 first round draft pick, and Phil Kessel, the possible number one pick in this year’s NHL draft, joining him at the forward positions. So good was the field of WCHA freshmen that Jonathan Toews, a projected top-three pick in the 2006 draft, was left off the list.
That's not bad company at all. Raymond was the Vancouver Canucks' 2nd pick (51st overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
