Selanne Sets The Bar
... for Anson Carter, that is.
To get an idea of what Vancouver Canucks UFA Anson Carter may be worth in the open market, consider that fellow $1 million player Teemu Selanne re-signed with the Anaheim Ducks for $3.75 million next season.
This past regular season, Selanne scored 40 goals while Carter scored 33. To be fair, Selanne added 50 assists and was a +28 for the Ducks team that also made it to the Western Conference finals. But while Carter finished with fewer points (55 points) and a -2 rating, he also helped the Sedin twins put together career seasons - something that previous wingers weren't able to do. (Hello Trent Klatt?)
Given the similarities in the $ starting points and their number of goals scored, $2 mil sounds like a fair number to me.
