Oilers 3 Canucks 5
For whatever reason, I've always been nervous whenever the Oilers would come to town and play the Canucks. Regardless of where either team was in the standings, the games would usually be even-played and very entertaining, but more often than not, the Oilers would end up on the winning end of things.
Last night, the Canucks beat the Oilers 5-3. More importantly, it was their third straight win against Raffi's crew. Most importantly, the win increased the Canucks' lead over the Oil to eight points.
The Canucks did many good things this game. They matched the Oilers stride-for-stride, hit-by-hit. A lot was said about Roberto Luongo being treated like a bowling pin, but with Willie Mitchell back in the lineup, the Canucks kept Louie's crease clear(er).
Once again, the penalty-kill was spectacular. They killed all seven Edmonton powerplays, and over the last 74 chances, have only allowed three goals - a freakin' amazing 96% kill rate. To top it all off, Marc Chouinard scored on a breakaway - read that again: Marc Chouinard scored on a breakaway - only seconds after killing an Oilers powerplay.

More from the Mainstream
- After the win, the Canucks have reclaimed first place in the Northwest Division. - Brad Ziemer (Vancouver Sun)
- More postgame stuff. - Iain MacIntyre (Vancouver Sun), Elliott Pap (Vancouver Sun), Jim Matheson (Edmonton Journal), Grant Kerr (Globe and Mail)
- Brendan Morrison and Markus Naslund played a great game. It's almost like it was 2002 again. - Jason Botchford (Vancouver Province)
- Cookie had a great game as well. Even if it doesn't show on the scoresheet. - Ed Willes (Vancouver Province)
- Coincidence that Willie Mitchell returned to the lineup and the Luongo crease-crashing stopped? - Gordon McIntyre (Vancouver Province).
About the game around the blogosphere
- The Chief Canuck has the good, the bad, but not the ugly.
- Waiting For Stanley recaps the game as well.
- From the Oilers side, a warning, Andy Grabia (Battle of Alberta) is angry.
- Covered In Oil has a surprisingly tame commentary.
My 3 Stars of the Game
- Markus Naslund (VAN): Great move on his great goal - the gamewinner.
- Brendan Morrison (VAN): Two assists and some great work on the penalty-kill.
- Jan Bulis (VAN): I've ragged on this guy all season but tonight was one of his better games. Played hard and was rewarded with an empty-net goal at the end of the game. (I probably could have picked Raffi Torres as one of the stars, but I'm a homer.)

Oh, nevermind. That bad feeling I had was from the chili I ate at lunch! haha. Wooo! The Canucks are back on a roll!
Good game last night.
Willie Mitchell was one of the best acquisitions of the offseason. He doesn't put up points, but he's the kind of rugged defenseman that clears the crease, which a lot of teams lack. Trading Salo or Morrison before the deadline would be a mistake. This team can ride Luongo to a cup if it gets scoring from the top two lines. Now Naslund can't disappear in the playoffs!

That was a good game. Caught the extended highlights on ESPN earlier in the day.
Nice goal by Naslund for the go ahead. Morrison has a solid night too. Should be a good game tomm. against Calgary too. I'll be checking it out since the Pens play early in the day.
I can't wait till the game tonight either. The Flames are on a roll; winner takes first place.
