Kings 2 Canucks 4

One more win. After last night's 4-2 win against Crow and the Kings, that's all the Canucks need to go from missing the playoffs last season to reclaiming the Northwest Division crown this time around.

I missed the first period of last night's game so I don't know how bad they started the game. I tuned it to a 2-0 deficit before Bryan Smolinski promptly converted on a beautiful feed from Henrik Sedin and the Canucks took over the game. Matt Cooke, Taylor Pyatt and Markus Naslund scored the other Canuck goals.

Again, Alain Vigneault pushed all the right buttons to get his team going.

"Our start wasn't good enough and sometimes you have to mix and match to create execution and intensity, and it seemed to work out," said Vigneault, whose season-long willingness to juggle lines could pay big playoff dividends.
This same approach has kept the guys honest and sharp all season long. They know they could go from the first line to the fourth line to the press box and back. And the players love it.

Accountability and honesty are just two of the traits Vigneault has brought to the Canucks after replacing the fired Marc Crawford. The team's success has Vigneault being touted as a coach-of-the-year candidate.

"Nobody predicted we'd be close to winning our division," Luongo said Tuesday, prior to the Canucks playing the Los Angeles Kings. "It's amazing how he implemented a system and got everyone on the same page in the short amount of time we had."
Amazing. It really is.

About the game around the blogosphere

My 3 Stars of the Game

  1. Daniel Sedin (VAN): A couple more assists for the team's scoring leader.
  2. Henrik Sedin (VAN): A couple of assists as well.
  3. Bryan Smolinski (VAN): Scored the goal that started the comeback. Had a strong game playing with the twins.

That's the second time in a row that Smoke has roofed the puck like that. Maybe he should shoot more often. Unreal.
