Round 1 Game 3: Should Be A Slushy One
The Canucks travel to what should be a slushy American Airlines arena in Dallas for game 3 tonight. If we were to look at the positives heading into the game, one of them is that the Canucks have proven to be quick learners throughout the season. During their 32-8-6 post-Christmas run, they lost consecutive games only twice. Sure, they had runs of less-than-perfect games last more than two games, but more often than not, they somehow managed to come out of them with wins.
This might be a good time for the Canucks to head on the road. Away from home, they can get back to playing a simple game. Without the pressure to show off, they're less like to try to stickhandle through the quick Dallas defense. When they dump the puck in, maybe they'll even beat Marty Turco to the puck.
Now, Dallas' 28 home wins in the regular season were the third most in the entire NHL. That said, the last time the Stars won a playoff game at home was three years ago. They're 4-7 in eleven postseason games since they moved from Reunion Arena. For their part, the Canucks aren't bad on the road and their 23 road wins were the fourth most in the league.
The Canucks will get a bit of a boost in the grit department. After missing game 2, Alex Burrows is expected to return to the lineup. He'll replace the ineffective Tommi Santala, who had all of 2:51 minutes of ice-time on Friday night.
