Canucks 7 Blue Jackets 4

Much better. The Vancouver Canucks got their legs moving early, built a 4-0 first period lead, then went on to a 7-4 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The win improved the Canucks' home record to 19-3-3; 16 of their remaining 26 games are at GM Place.

Game Recaps: canucks.com . ESPN
Statistics: Score Sheet . Stat Sheet
My notes from the game:

  • Though the Sedin line (2-4-6) outscored the big line (2-3-5) last night, Naslund, Morrison and Bertuzzi played their best game in some time. Their passes connected, they created chances, and were much more visible than they were in any of the last couple of weeks.
  • Alex Auld was solid in getting his 24th win of the season. He stopped 29 of 33 Columbus shots, and including the six games he played in the team's recent road trip, has now stopped 246 of the last 269 shots he's faced (0.914 save%).
  • The energy line of Burrows, Kesler and Ruutu was the only line not to figure on the score sheet, but they jumpstarted the game with a rambunctious first shift. They threw their weight around, kept the puck in the Columbus zone and created some offensive pressure - that first shift really set the tone for the rest of the game.
  • That line's play also poses an interesting situation for Marc Crawford when Matt Cooke and Richard Park come back from injury. With their chemistry, does he keep that line together and put Cooke and Park with Linden?
  • Steve McCarthy seems to finally be settling into his role as a bottom-pair defenseman. He played another good game and logged 12:54 minutes of ice-time. He finished with 2 shots and a +1 rating.
  • Is Jason Chimera that fast or is Tomas Mozjis that slow? In only his second game of the season, Mozjis got burned a couple of times. He played okay otherwise and was only the ice for the Jackets' 5-on-3 goal. Nothing too spectacular.
  • What was Gerald Gallant trying to prove putting Jody Shelley on the ice in the final minute of the game and the game definitely lost? Idiot.
Next up: St. Louis on Wednesday.
