The Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday acquired right wing Tommi Santala and a fifth-round pick in the 2007 draft from the Atlanta Thrashers for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2007.His TSN scouting report:
Santala, 26, joins the Canucks after playing 43 games last season inthe Finnish Elite League with Jokerit of Helsinki and recording nine goals and 23 assists. In 2003-04, Santala played 33 games with Atlanta and had one goal and two assists.
Assets: Has very good size for the pivot position. Is a skilled playmaker. Doesn't mind mixing it up and is fundamentally sound at both ends of the ice.Just what the Canucks need. Another checking line center.
Flaws: Needs to better adjust to the rigors of the North American game. Tends to struggle in the goal-scoring department.
Career potential: Checking line center.
