Stars 1 Canucks 2 (SO)
Last night's 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars - the Canucks' fifth consecutive win - shall be known as the Roberto Luongo show:
In the end, the only thing that mattered was that the guy some call Bobby Lou stood on his head, made 39 saves (plus another five in the shootout) and won the game for the good guys.

"Louie probably had his best performance of the year tonight," said a pleased Canuck head coach Alain Vigneault. "He gave us a chance to win and we got it done. It's happened to us quite a few times this year [the other goalie stealing the game] so we're not going to apologize for it."No, they shouldn't. So what if they were outshot, outplayed and outchanced? So what if they were a bit undisciplined, even giving the Stars three minutes of powerplay time in overtime? So what if Markus Naslund's slump has now reached a ridiculous 16 games? So what if the Stars were an intimdating 15-1 all-time in games decided by a shootout?
In the end, the only thing that mattered was that the guy some call Bobby Lou stood on his head, made 39 saves (plus another five in the shootout) and won the game for the good guys.
More from the Mainstream
- One of the soon-to-be bigger stories of the season are the Canucks' penalty-killing. Their PK rate at home is a league-leading 93.6%, and last night, they killed all seven Stars powerplays, including two in overtime.
- How did Alain Vigneault know to choose five-goal scorer, Ryan Kesler, for the shootout? Vigneault spills the juicy details.
- The Canucks have nothing but respect for goalie Marty Turco. It doesn't hurt that Turco had a 12-2 career record and 1.69 GAA against the Canucks going into last night's game.
- What does hard work and attention to detail get you? Five straight wins.
- I'll admit to not knowing much about Jeff Cowan before the Canucks plucked him from the waiver wire. Thankfully, Jason Botchford (Vancouver Province) sat down with him and tells us a bit about the newest Canuck.
About the game around the blogosphere
- I found a new-ish Canucks blog by a fangirl in Vancouver. Here is pikachu's recap of last night's game.
- And of course, The Chief Canuck shares with us the good, the bad and the ugly about the game.
My 3 Stars of the Game
- Roberto Luongo (VAN): 39 saves and as dominant a performance as we've seen from him all seen.
- Philipe Boucher (DAL): Stars' defenseman and leading scorer anchored a solid outing by the defense and gave the Canucks very few chances in the final three periods.
- Ryan Kesler (VAN): Shootout gamewinner was a beauty. So was his work on the PK.

Nazzy is so obviously hurt it ain't even funny. The laboring stride....the weak wrist shots...the uninspired shootout attempt. Ugh. The most the team and Naslund are willing to admit to is a sore shoulder.
The evidence leads me to believe that he has a sore/pulled groin.
You read it here first.
I think you're right. It sucks to admit it, but whatever he has, I wouldn't be surprised the least bit that he has to have surgery to fix.
