Dear Acid Queen Hockey Blog
Dear AQ,
This is in response to your post dated January 4, 2006 where you expressed concern over the treatment of Team USA at the World Junior Hockey Championships. On behalf of most hockey fans on this side of the border, I would like to express disappointment over the classlessness of some of our fans, those that crossed the line between being a fan and being an idiot. This is clearly not in our nature and I assure you that profanities were only uttered by a few select bufoons who may have had a few too many brews. (I know. I was sitting close to some of them.)
Please don't take this personally as an American. These same bufoons who were chanting "U Suck USA" during Team USA's semifinal game were also screaming "F*** you, Finland" during the other semifinal game - yes, they showed some serious knack for alliteration - and would probably chant "Soviets Suck" tomorrow night until they realize that we are actually playing Russia.
I sincerely hope this doesn't change your plans to visit our fine city in June to attend the 2006 NHL Draft. Almost certainly, American Phil Kessel will be selected with the no. 1 overall pick and should be cheered when he gets up on stage to shake hands with Gary Bettman and put on his Blue Jackets jersey.
And to prove our city still possesses the same, friendly hospitality as your last visit three years ago, I'll make sure to buy you a pint of our finest Molson Canadian while waiting for our teams to pick in the very late stages of the first round.
Yours Truly,
J.J.
PS. While we're trying to patch Canada/US ties, maybe we can also ask that Atlanta Thrashers fans stop booing Dany Heatley - if the Snyders can find it in their hearts to forgive him for killing their son, surely fans can forgive him for requesting a trade, not to thumb his nose at them, but to move on from a place that brings back constant reminders of a horrible event in his life.

Fans in general are idiots, doesn't matter where you are. From the Bronx Zoo, to the Black Hole, to Roll Tide, Man U, the list goes on and on. Vancouver ain't no different.
Research has shown that it's the Strange Brew and not the Team Allegiance that brings the Hooligan in all of us...
In the (very) mild defense of the Atlanta fans, they felt rather abandoned by one of their stars. Even the Snyders had expressed disappointment that Dany hadn't spoken to them since early in 2004 (which I know upset a lot of people), and he pretty much blew off his community service in Atlanta--preferring to do it elsewhere. Then he up and asked for a trade out of the blue, so what were the fans supposed to think?
I think that now that they've gotten it out of their systems, the Atlanta folk will be better-behaved the next time the Sens come to town.
