Close But No Cigar

It was a good campaign, a fun campaign, but in the end, "Vote For Rory" came up 22,000-something votes short and Rory Fitzpatrick can go take that family vacation on All-Star week. If there's any solace for Canucks fans, Roberto Luongo finished first among Western Conference goaltenders and will start the All-Star game. (So much for that rest Vigneault wanted for him.) The rest of the rosters will be announced on Saturday during CBC's Hockey Day In Canada.

By the way, did anyone notice that both Daniel Briere and Alexander Ovechkin are on the starting lineup for the Eastern Conference? Think Jordan vs. Isiah during the 1985 NBA All-Star game.

More bits and bites from today's MSM:
  • During the Canucks' current seven-game win streak, their penalty-killing has quietly moved up the ranks and their 87.9% PK% is now 1st overall in the NHL. They haven't allowed a powerplay goal in five games, a string of that includes 28 consecutive man-disadvantages. - Elliott Pap (Vancouver Sun)
  • Apparently, Alex Burrows has been playing with two broken toes. - Ben Kuzma (Vancouver Province)
  • Here's more on Trevor's rejuvenated play. - Gordon McIntyre (Vancouver Province)
  • Louie wasn't the only All-Star announced yesterday. Brad Moran and Mike Keane were also both named to the AHL Canadian All-Star roster. - theAHL.com
