Today Is An Unofficial Holiday

I never get sick of watching this clip:

The Canucks vs. Leafs game is only one portion of about 13 and a half hours worth of hockey on the tube, but is, of course, the most important one for me. I'm excited; the players are excited.

Happy Hockey Day In Canada, everyone!

Here's a schedule of today's festivities (all times PST):

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM HDIC live on location (Nelson, B.C.)
11:00 AM - 1:30 PM Montreal @ Ottawa
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM HDIC live on location (Nelson, B.C.)
3:30 PM - 4:00 PM Saturday Night (HNIC pregame show)
4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Vancouver @ Toronto
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM Edmonton @ Calgary
10:00 PM - 10:30 PM After Hours (Calgary and Camrose, Alta.)

If you feel like watching the game with a few hundred other folks, GM Place is opening its doors before the UBC/Regina CIS game and show the Canucks vs. Leafs matchup on the new jumbotron. Tickets are $12 each (plus $8 per beer).

If that's not enough hockey for you, NBC's (almost) weekly hockey coverage also starts today. It features an online pregame show starting at 10:30 AM and followed by three all-American match-ups: Boston Bruins @ NY Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins @ Philadelphia Flyers, and (the Dan Cloutier-less) Los Angeles Kings @ St. Louis Blues. Click here to find out what game is showing in your area.

Alanah is doing a (maybe drunken) liveblog of Hockey Day In Canada. Hey, she did a 24-hour blog event once. 13 and a half hours should be no problem.

You can follow her adventures here.

James Mirtle, who grew up close to the HDIC host city of Nelson, BC, also has a great rundown on the event.
